Have you ever wondered if a career as a lash and brow stylist is right for you and would like more insight into the daily work routine? Then today's blog post is just what you're looking for. You could say it was written for you! We'll take a look at what the average day of a successful lash and brow stylist looks like! Are you curious?

As a lash and brow stylist, you don't have to be an early bird. If you specialize in eyelashes and brows, you have a very specific target group:

Women who have very little time. These are businesswomen, working women, and mothers who all have one thing in common: they only have the time to take care of themselves and their appearance at certain times of day. As an eyebrow and eyelash stylist, you adapt to these times.

Ladybosses and working women spend their lunch break or after-work time getting their beauty treatments from you. Mothers need to use the morning hours while their kids are at kindergarten or school. This means that as a lash and brow stylist, you have two peak hours each day where you really need to work hard: between 10:00 and 1:30 pm and between 4:00 and 7:30 pm.

Who is coming to the Lash & Brow Studio and when?

From 10 a.m. onwards, the first wave of beauty clients arrives, primarily mothers. As a lash and brow stylist, you'll need to work quickly, because by around 11:00 or 11:30 a.m., the working ladies will be there, using their lunch break to visit your lash and brow studio. Again, it's all about speed! The typical lunch break is only an hour at most.

It's ideal for short lash and brow treatments. In the evening, the boss ladies arrive, finally off work and looking forward to their relaxing and pampering lash and brow treatment with you.

As a lash and brow stylist, you generally work slightly longer hours than the typical 9-to-5 employee. But don't worry, you'll still manage to get home in time for prime time on most days. In return, you get to sleep in later than everyone else and start your day completely relaxed.

You'll never be bored in your daily life as a lash and brow stylist. With a successful lash and brow business, you'll practically always have a full studio. As an established brow and lash professional, you can generally expect an 88% booking rate. Regular clients make up a large portion of that.

This is what a day in the life of a lash and brow stylist looks like.

While everyone else has already been at the office for two hours, the lash and brow stylist is still getting ready in the morning. When the alarm rings depends on whether you're traveling alone or with kids.

If the little ones still need to be taken to daycare or school, then the alarm clock rings early, but you still have plenty of time in the morning to start the day in peace and quiet.

If the kids aren't around, then there's nothing stopping the phone alarm at 7:30 a.m. I switch on the coffee maker or kettle, enjoy a leisurely breakfast, and scroll through Instagram for a bit. Then it's off to the shower and the bathroom mirror for the morning beauty routine. An outfit is quickly chosen and put on. The polished appearance, a top factor in the beauty profession, is complete, and it's time to head off to my own personal beauty salon!

The lash and brow stylist sets off at 9:00 a.m.

Tip: Did you know that you don't need any official training to offer lash and brow treatments?

Arrival at the beauty studio & first customers of the day

Unlock the studio, turn on the lights, put your handbag in the storeroom, quickly check that everything is in order, wash your hands. Heat up the wax machine and put on your favorite beauty coat, check the day's appointments in the calendar, lay out the products for the first treatment, and prepare the treatment bed. These are the first steps you take each day as a lash and brow stylist.

Then you have a little time to jump on the laptop and send out one or two small orders before your first customers arrive in the morning:

Mothers who, in their stressful everyday lives juggling children, household chores, and so on, take a moment for themselves while the children are at school.

You need breaks. So do your errands.

Since your workday starts later, your lunch break is also shifted slightly. Your break starts between 2:00 and 3:00 PM. Taking your break in the afternoon also has its advantages.

Popping into the city for a quick lunch from the bistro around the corner, or running errands while everyone else is already back at their desks, is definitely a cool thing to do.

Things slowly start picking up again at your beauty studio from the afternoon onwards. The first ladies are finishing work.

Throughout the day, you also sell your beauty products here and there, offering a wide selection with something for everyone. Advising your customers and recommending new or different products is enjoyable. When your customers help out at home, it's sometimes even easier for you to make them happy with a treatment and the final results.

As soon as it gets late afternoon, things really start to get busy, because the businesswomen and lady bosses come to your Lash & Brow Studio. They've finally finished the last important call of the day and are celebrating the end of the workday with a relaxing beauty treatment that unwinds them, brings them down from their "work high," and simultaneously enhances their style.

Especially in professional settings, attention is paid to appearance and grooming, and businesswomen have the financial means to easily and effortlessly hand this task over to you!

Schedule customer appointments at the beauty studio

Are you wondering when to schedule appointments with your clients? Don't you constantly miss calls while you have a client on the treatment table?

The successful lash and brow stylist has an online booking system for this purpose.

Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, 70% of bookings at BLASHY Bar in Zurich are now made online by customers. Cancellations can also be easily made from home using this online tool for beauty professionals, allowing appointments to be quickly made available to other interested parties.

You schedule your remaining appointments at the end of your beauty treatments, because your clients return after 2-8 weeks to have their lash extensions or brows touched up. Only a fraction of them still call your landline to book an appointment these days. You're much more likely to receive a private message on your Instagram account (which, as a lash and brow stylist, you should definitely maintain, as it's the ideal marketing tool).

End of day for a lash & brow stylist

At the end of the day, you do your cash reconciliation. You check your online booking tool to see which clients are coming in tomorrow and which lash and brow treatments are scheduled. You tidy up a bit, mop the floor, check the restroom and give it a quick clean if necessary, and restock the products you used up throughout the day. Then you lock up and head home around 8:15 pm.

If you still have the desire and energy, you can check from your sofa at home what your community has been up to on Insta, Tik Tok or Facebook & Co., answer comments and private messages and get inspiration for new trends on Instagram, via Whatsapp or Pinterest.

Being a lash and brow stylist is a very rewarding job that's subject to many trends and therefore never becomes stale or boring. You can always try something new. With lash and brow styling, you can offer many different looks, from natural to dramatic, thus reaching a wide range of women, each with their own individual preferences.

Which eyelash and eyebrow treatments are the most popular?

As a lash and brow stylist, you have a very wide range of treatments that you can offer.

At BLASHY, we've found that lash extensions, brow tint & style, and lash lifts are the most popular with your target audience: businesswomen, busy women, and mothers. Brow lifts are also selling extremely well.

But your day won't consist solely of these three or four treatments! Invasive treatments, such as serum treatments for eyebrow growth, permanent makeup removal with pigment killer for a great base for beautiful brow styling, or microblading, are just as much a part of your daily work as these "standard" treatments.

The best thing about being a lash and brow stylist is building a real connection with your clients. Depending on the treatment(s) they choose, they'll be regular visitors to your beauty studio. Brows need a touch-up every 3-6 weeks; lash lifts require a visit every six weeks.

Lash extensions need to be renewed every two to four weeks. A major advantage of the beauty industry is that your clients pay you directly, so you have the money in your hands instead of waiting 30 days for payment. Service provided, payment received, and no fear of your work going unpaid.

We strongly recommend that you offer your customers all payment methods: cash, card payment and Twint (only in Switzerland) – even if it incurs slight fees or even installment payments via third-party providers, especially if you offer high-priced treatments such as microblading.

Lash & Brow clients are very loyal. Once you've convinced them of your expertise and they're satisfied with the results, they'll keep coming back to your beauty studio as long as you maintain the high quality of service and the final result.

Overall, the daily life of a lash and brow stylist is lively and rarely boring. You're in close contact with a young community of lash and brow enthusiasts, and your beauty clients are also quite young (up to about 45 years old) and love beauty!

Not only will you build relationships with cool women, but your work will also never get boring. New trending treatments emerge every few months. Then you can either discard old ones from your portfolio or simply expand it.

There's no such thing as monotony if you want to become a lash and brow expert. And once you've established yourself as one, the ladies will be beating down your studio! Wouldn't that be great?
